Community Safety Partnership is an advocacy initiative working with communities, humanitarian actors and conflict stakeholders to reduce the human impact of landmines and explosive ordnance. We work close to communities affected by active conflict, building trusted relationships that help turn local knowledge into practical action.

Why advocacy matters

Every landmine laid today can become a civilian danger for decades. Clearance remains essential, but communities cannot always wait for conflict to end or for formal mine action to become possible. Advocacy helps reduce harm now. It can discourage landmine use, protect local knowledge, encourage marking of dangerous areas, mobilise support and ensure that affected communities are heard by those with the power to act. CSP’s advocacy is practical and field-informed. It is focused on reducing risk, influencing behaviour and creating pathways toward safer communities.

What We Do?

Reduce Use

We advocate for restraint in the use of landmines and victim-activated explosive devices, and for stronger protection of civilians in conflict-affected areas.

Reduce Harm

We support practical risk reduction, including community reporting, safer information, marking of hazardous areas and locally led safety measures.

Build Pathways

Where full clearance is not yet possible, CSP advocates for steps that prepare the ground for future survey, marking, clearance and safe disposal of explosive hazards.

We do not wait for the perfect conditions to save lives

In many conflict-affected areas, formal mine action is delayed by insecurity, politics, lack of access or limited funding. But people continue to farm, travel, flee violence, return home, collect water, rebuild houses and care for their families in places where landmines and explosive ordnance remain a daily threat. CSP advocates for practical steps that can reduce harm now: recording hazardous areas, marking dangerous places, improving risk information, supporting local leadership and opening pathways toward future survey and clearance.
